I checked all of the check boxes. I grew up xtian then took a long time to try to find myself. I tried Asatru for a while but then recently saw the movie Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The lightning Theif and the movie stirred old feelings I had for the Olympians and ancient Greece. While in school I always had a facination with the Greek and Roman religions of old. Now as I sit in a hospital after the birth of my first son, I search the web for as much as I can find about the Olympians and the ways they were worshiped in the Old Days. I know many of the Mythos of Hellenismos so now I'm just familiarizing myself with how to worship the Gods. I just feel so drawn to Them. It kinda feels like coming home. If that makes any sense.

When I left a dogmatic religion (in my case Islam) I began a quest for an independent spirituality and truth. After years of exploration and soul-searching I found that Plato and the Neoplatonists offered a spiritual path that suited both my mystic inclinations and my scientific sensibilities.

From reading the works of the Platonists and seeing how they worshipped and loved their the gods, I choose to experience that kind of worship. But now, my practice is not tied to a religion that tells me what God is and that He will cast me to hell if I don't join it. Now, I trust the beauty and the good of the divine, feeling its presence in the universe around me and in me.

So why Hellenismos? Because it brings to my philosophic practice a higher dimension that can only come from sincere piety and the sweet flavour of reverence.

I was once Wiccan but I found that the path wasn't for me because the teens got involved and they were doing spells for everything, abusing the Gods. Wiccans have no respect for the Gods and think they can bend them to their will. If I've insulted anyone I'm sorry.

She really cares about things like that as well as cultural heritage.

Yeah, like Lara Corbots $120.00 Athame's and her stupid crystal wands. Too expensive and I'm not going to go into the covens. Some of them are run by teens and they make Wicca into a joke. Also, like you, when I found Hellenismos I dropped Wicca right then and there. Love the fact that there's no magic, just worshiping and giving offerings to the Gods.
