I just got back from a church camp and realized what was missing from Hellenismos (or at least from my practice) - a sense of Community. The Church offers a place where one can find companionship, friendship and a family, without the fear of being judged. I feel strongly that we need that in Hellenismos, especially for the youth and young adults, as I am one.

Are there already such communities, camps or youth programs? If so please share them!

Also, what ideas do you have for such a program? Or, how can we build a stronger community? How can we increase people's exposure to Hellenismos, and make it approachable to the average person?

Khaire Aeolos,

I think the most important tool we have at our disposal in building a community for Hellenismos is - you guessed it - the Internet. Facebook, MeetUp, forums, etc! With todays networking tools, we can find like-minded individuals with whom to found a Hellenic community.

In North-America, Hellenic Reconstructionists don't seem to be very common, from my perspective. In Greece and Europe, it seems to be a little less uncommon, considering the size of some festivals organized by some Hellenic groups.

One thing I would definitely recommend is meeting fellow heathens. Regardless of their "denomination". Though I recognize that we may not be perfectly alike, I embrace most (if not all) pagans as brethren.

You mentionned you were a young adult, are you also in college? If you are, perhaps joining or creating a student society might be of interest in meeting like-minded individuals?

I might write more about this later. Smiley

Zeus watch over you.

Really?!

Hellenic Polytheism is a very family and community oriented religious practice. The thing is we are not institutionalized and not everyone is a Hellenic Polytheist as they were around the Aegean.
Undecided
The best thing (I'd say) would be to start small, like say people get together for communal worship and study...or like an Hellenic type symposium (which in archaic times not only involved philosophical conversation but music, drinking, & dancing girls). Wink
